Teruel is known for its magnificent Mudejar architecture, and one of the finest examples is the bell tower with its brickwork and ceramics. The cathedral and tower were enlarged in the 16th Century. Inside the cathedral, the roof of the nave is covered with Mudejar paintings depicting medieval life such as musical instruments, and hunting and court scenes. There is also a splendid 15th Century altarpiece as well as a 16th Century retable by Gabriel Joli.
