Outside the city walls and in the valley of the Eresma stands the unusual Church of the Vera Cruz. Built in the early 13th Century by the Knights Templar, it has twelve sides and in the centre is a two storey chamber where secret rituals took place. The church once possessed a relic said to be a piece of the Vera Cruz (True Cross), but it has been moved to the village of Zamarramala. Also of interest is the 15th Century painting of the Last Supper. From the bell tower are fine views of Segovia.
