The Church of Santa Maria was built of volcanic grey and white stone with a Neo-classical facade. It was designed by Jose Perez Lujan who was born in 1756 in Santa Maria de Guia. The building dates from 1780 and is a mixture of Baroque and Neo-classical styles. In the church are several works by Perez. There are many fine historic buildings in this lovely colonial town.
