Las Batuecas Natural Park is a beautiful, dramatic landscape with mountains, deep valleys, streams and waterfalls. It is home to golden eagles, black vultures, wild goats, wild boar and lynx. In the Las Batuecas Valley are many cave shelters with prehistoric paintings and near the entrance to the valley stands the Convento del Desierto which was built with other sanctuaries in the 15th Century. The monks left in 1836 but in the early 20th Century the monastery was bought by the Carmelita de Castila.
