Known as Can Magi, the watchtower is one of several built along the Mediterranean coast by the Spanish king Felipe 11 during the 16th Century. At that time, the coastal villages were frequently attacked by pirates from north Africa. There was always one or two people on guard in each tower and they had a system of communicating with other guards so that the villagers had sufficient warning to make themselves safe in the walled village.
