Mulhacen at 3479 metres is the highest peak in the Sierra Nevada. The mountain stands at the end of the Poqueira Valley and on its summit is a small shrine. Views on a clear day stretch as far as the Rif Mountains in Morocco. The peak can be reached from the Hoya de la Mora car park via Veleta or from the Mirador de Trevelez. These are long walks and you should be prepared for bad weather. There are several high mountain refuges where you can stay the night.
