The Plaza de Espana is a grandiose square built in the mudejar, gothic and renaissance styles for the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition. Backed by a massive building, it has a semi-circular shape and around it are forty-eight benches dedicated to the provinces of Spain. Each is decorated with ceramics illustrating an important historical event. The small canal around the square is crossed by four footbridges.
