The Plaza del Adelantado is a pleasant tree lined square surrounded by several interesting buildings, including the Convent of Santa Catalina which dates from the eary 17th Century. Here, also, is the Town Hall with its Neoclassical facade and nearby is a busy indoor market. In the square is a statue of local born Anchieta who emigrated to America as a missionary. The square with its benches and bars is an ideal place to relax.
