The Puente de Alcantara stands outside the city walls and below the cliffs of the Alcazar. Spanning the River Tajo, the bridge was originally built by the Romans, although the present structure is mainly 13th Century. It has a splendid Mudejar tower. On the far side of the bridge is San Servando Castle which dates from Moorish times. During the 14th Century it was rebuilt in the Mudejar style.
