Spanning the River Tormes, the well preserved Roman Bridge still has fifteen of its original arches. The others were lost in 1626 during a flood. It was built in the 1st Century AD, at the time of Roman Emperor Trajan, and was on the Roman road between Merida and Astorja. From the bridge is a fine view of the city. Nearby, on a column is a statue of a bull, an emblem of the city.
