Named after the patron saint of navigators, St Telmo`s Palace was once a naval academy. It was built in 1682 to train officers, navigators and the pilots of ships. The palace was the residence of the Dukes of Monpensier in the second half of the 19th Century. The building has a splendid Churrigueresque portal by Leonardo de Figueroa. Figures of saints include St Telmo holding a ship and chart. The palace is now the headquarters of regional government.
