Salobrena`s Arab Castle dates mainly from the 12th Century and it was used as a summer residence by Granada`s rulers. The castle has steep cliffs on three sides and can only be approached through the village. There is also a well inside the fortress so it could easily hold out against attack. The castle has two enclosures, one of which held prisoners, including Moorish kings. It is possible to walk along part of the ramparts,
