The Monasterio de San Juan Isidoro del Campo was founded in 1301 by Guzman El Bueno who defended Tarifa`s castle on the Costa de la Luz in 1294. It was occupied by Hieronymite monks who decorated the cloister with murals. Some monks were executed during the Inquisition but monks of a different order later occupied the monastery. After they left in the 19th Century the monastery was used as a women`s prison and a brewery. It has now been restored and is open to visitor.
