Sant Feliu de Guixols has a long history and its origins go back to when a settlement grew around a Benedictine monastery. Part of this monastery is now in ruins but an impressive feature that is still standing is the Porta Ferrada, an arched shaped Romanesque facade which dates from the 10th Century. Inside the building is the City History Museum which has an exhibition of artefacts found in the monastery. There are also displays about the cork industry of the town.
