Located in the inland village of Teguise, Santa Barbara Castle was built in the 16th Century as a watchtower. At that time there wee many invasions by pirates. It was strengthened and reinforced by architect Leonardo Torriani. In the 1990s, the castle was converted into the Museo del Emigrante Canario - a museum dedicated to the emigration of people from the Canary Islnds to America. There is an interesting collection of ethnographic exhibits.
