Siguenza Castle started as a Roman settlement which was changed into a Visigoth fortress and, later on, was expanded by the Moors into their Alcazaba. After Siguenza was retaken by the Christians, the castle was the residence of the Bishops who ruled Siguenza. The castle was almost destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, but it has since been restored and is now a parador. It is possible to visit the central courtyard.
