The Artium, Basque Museum of Contemporary Art opened in 2002 and its aim is to illustrate the evolution of Spanish art since the beginning of the 20th Century. The gallery contains more than 2,000 works by Spanish artists ranging from the avant-garde movement of the twenties and thirties to more recent times. There are works by Miro, Tapies and Chillida. The Artium also hosts temporary exhibitions. In the courtyard is a tall sculpture by Miguel Navarro.
