The Basilica of San Prudencio dates from the Romanesque period and, although it was rebuilt in the 18th Century, it still has some features from that time. These include carvings of Christ and the Apostles and the Lamb and John the Baptist above the doors. More Romanesque artefacts have been uncovered by archaeologists. The village is said to be the birthplace of San Prudencio who is the patron saint of Alava Province.
