Catalina Thomas is Mallorca`s patron saint and she was born in Valldemossa in 1531. A peasant girl, she became a nun when she was 23 years old and joined the Augustinian order in Palma. Known for her humility, she refused the position of Mother Superior. She is buried in the Santa Maria Magdalena Chapel in Palma and was canonised in 1930. The house where she was born has been converted into a chapel and in front of it is a statue of the saint holding a jug.
