The huge Mercado Central opened in 1928 and it is one of the largest markets in Europe. It is a covered market of iron, tile and glass in the Modernist style, with long aisles and over 900 stalls. On the roof is a parrot weathervane that symbolises the activity below. Every morning the stalls are filled with all kinds of fresh food, including many kinds of vegetables, fruit and fish.
