Church of Santa Maria
Toro, Zamora Province - Spain

Map

The beautiful Church of Santa Maria, or Colegiata, in Toro was built in the 12th Century in the Romanesque style. Its most outstanding feature is the Gothic west portal with its recessed arches that are richly carved with biblical themes. It was repainted in the 18th Century. There are polychrome wooden statues at the end of the nave. In the sacristy are many treasures including a magnificent 16th Century Flemish painting of the Virgin and the Fly.
