The Convento de Santa Clara dates from the 15th Century and inside are the tombs of the family who originally lived in the castle. Dominated by its fortress which was built on the site of a Moorish alcazar, Zafra is a pretty town with two attractive arcaded squares, Plaza Grande and Plaza Chica. The convent is near the main shopping street and, like many other convents, it sells homemade pastries and cakes.
