The Garganta Verde is a fantastic canyon where griffon vultures breed. The walk to it starts from a car park outside Zahara and it is fairly easy at first before the path descends steeply into the canyon with its sheer rock walls. To reach the Cueva de Pileta, a pink rock cave with stalagmites and stalactites, it is necessary to clamber over rocks. Rock climbing experience is essential beyond this point. Permits to visit the canyon can be arranged at the information centre in the village.
