The Monasterio de Piedra was founded by Cisterian monks from the Abbey of Poblet in Tarragona in the late 12th Century. It has been rebuilt several times and was damaged in the 19th Century. Much of the building has been rebuilt as a hotel. There is a park with waterfalls, a grotto and a lovely lake. The fall known as the Cola de Caballo has a cascade of over 170 feet.
