The peak of Es Teix rises to 1,064 metres and it is part of a wild mountain range between Valdemossa and Deia. Although the lower slopes are wooded, the higher terrain is rough and rocky with cliffs. There are many footpaths, some of which were created by Ludwig Salvator of Son Marroig so that he could wander the hills on horseback. A circular, strenuous walk for experienced hikers starts from Valldemossa to the summit of Es Teix, from where there are stunning views of almost the entire island.
