Vielha is the capital of the Aran Valley and the Museu dera Val d`Aran is a museum dedicated to the history, culture and folklore of this beautiful valley. It is situated in the north-west of the Catalan Pyrenees, and although the area has been under Spanish rule since the Middle Ages its isolation has helped the preservation of local traditions. Since the opening of the Vielha Tunnel in the late 1940s, many ski resorts have opened in this area.
