The Plaza Mayor is surrounded by interesting buildings and streets. Here stands the 16th Century old town hall which has a facade decorated with the coats of arms of Zamora. On one side stands the Church of San Juan de Puerto Nueva which has a rose window above the south door and an 18th Century coffered ceiling. Leading off Plaza Mayor is the atmospheric Calle Balborraz, leading to Avenida del Mengue beside the River Duera.
