Overlooking the bed of the River Turia, the Serranos Towers were built in the late 14th Century as the northern gate to the medieval Christian city. For three hundred years from the late 16th Century, the towers served as a prison. During the 19th Century, the city walls were demolished to make room for the expanding city. Although much restored, the gateway is a fine example of Gothic defensive architecture. From the battlements are panoramic views.
