Standing on its hilltop, Villena Castle dominates this little town in the Vinalopo valley. The original fortress was built by the Arabs. During the 14th and 15th centuries it was occupied by Don Juan Manuel, then by Prince Henry of Aragon who was a poet known as the Marquis de Villena. A large square tower survives, and also walls with circular towers in the corners. From the site are fine views.
